December 24, 2021Why Mattress Cleaning is Necessary in Lake Forest, CA; Remove Stubborn Stains, Musty Smells & More
The average person spends about a third of their life in their bed. Considering the allergens, and foreign bodies building up on the bed, sweat, shed dead skin cells, shed hair, dust, and other contaminants, it is no mystery as to why people have a tough time sleeping. Even for people that diligently wash the bedding every 1-3 weeks, few actually think about the buildup of sweat and debris that is on the mattress. In order to maintain a healthy mattress, people should be cleaning their mattress every 3-4 months and investing in professional cleanings 1-2 times a year since the mattress absorbs and collects a lot of the filth through the sheets. Today, we at My Steam Green Carpet Cleaning Orange County would like to offer some advice on the cleaning of your mattress in between professional cleanings that will potentially extend the lifespan and to keep it well maintained.
How Do You Clean a Mattress to Get a Musty Smell Out?
Preparing the Mattress Surface for Cleaning. After stripping the bedding off the mattress, in accordance with the directions on the label, and in separate loads, wash the pillowcases and sheets and comfortable in the washing machine. Vacuum the surface of the mattress’s back, sides, and top once the mattress is bare. To effectively vacuum the mattress, use a grid pattern to guarantee the mattress is well vacuumed and be sure to pay close attention to the nooks and crannies.
Mattress Odor Treatment. Odors develop and worsen over time since mattresses easily develop odors from elements like sweat and other sources. In order to neutralize the existing odors and prevent others from occurring, sprinkle baking soda on the surface of your mattress and wait 30 minutes or so generously. Also, by adding a up to 10 drops of your favorite essential oils to the baking soda, you can add a fragrance that will last 5-14 days.
Mattress Stain & Spot Removal. Create a thick paste using hydrogen peroxide and baking soda with a few pinches of salt in the mix. After you have applied to the affected areas, carefully agitate the mixture into the mattress’s fabric. Allow it sit for least 30 minutes, and if necessary, until dries, and vacuum the remnants. Vacuum away the particles after it is dry and follow up to remove any lingering residues, by blotting the area with a damp cloth. In a squirt bottle, mix 2 cups hydrogen peroxide and 1tsp mild hand dish soap for more severe or stubborn stains. Generously, spray the area down and let is sit for 10 minutes, afterwards, use a damp cloth to carefully blot the spot away. An alternative solution is mixing 1 cup white vinegar, ½ cup baking soda, 1 tbsp mild liquid dish soap.
Allow Mattress to Dry. Before remaking your bed, the mattress needs to be completely dry. To accelerate the cleaning process, open window, if the weather permits, and where applicable turn on a ceiling fan and/or floor fan.
Rotate and Flip Mattress. In order to even out the wear, flip it over and rotate it counterclockwise once the mattress is cleaned.
